Welcome to Kokopelli Kids Preschool! KKP aims to promote a strong foundation for learning in a friendly, encouraging atmosphere. Children will learn to both participate in a group, and accomplish tasks as individuals. KKP's goal is to help each child gain a positive self image while they broaden their knowledge of rudimentary skills. There are two classes a Monday and Wednesday class and a Tuesday and Thursday class.

The Monday/Wednesday class will be formatted for children who are 3 turning 4. Specifically this class is for children who have more than 1 year until they attend kindergarten. This class will focus on the fundamentals, socialization and independence.

The Tuesday/Thursday class will be formatted for children who are 4 turning 5. this class is for children who will attend kindergarten the following year. This class will delve deeper into kindergarten readiness, attention and retention.

Kokopelli Kids Preschool strives to teach children kindness, knowledge, laughter and respect for a successful entry into kindergarten. We would love for you to join us!

May Curriculum



         

April 30-May 3
The Letter of the week is Y. We will talk about yarn and how it is made. We will make a craft with yarn. We will review all our material and prepare for our end of the year performance.
May 7-10
The Letter of the week is Z. We will talk about zoo animals, in particular, zebras. We will also play games using a zig-zag pattern. We will continue to work on recognizing written numbers and identifying patterns.
May 14-17
This week we will discuss water and sun safety.  For the first day of class have your child bring clothes that can get wet and a change of clothes.
We will discuss the importance of sun screen, we will do a science experiment that will prove the importance of protecting our skin. For water safety will discuss the rules of swimming pools. 
May 21-24
Alphabet review! We made it through the alphabet and we will ride the alphabet train, toot toot! We will review counting to 30, the shape names and reading and singing color words. We will review the phonics of the alphabet letters, signing and saying the pledge, the days of the week, the months of the year, reading their class mates names and much, much, more!

***The second class of the week will be held during the evening. Parents, siblings and friends are invited to our end of the year performance. The performance will be at 6:30 followed by refreshments and a KKP souvenir.

April Curriculum



April (2nd, 4th) or (3rd, no school on Thursday the 5th)
Spring is here! We will work on our hand eye coordination with our funny ducky craft. We will talk about the signs of spring and read “Duck for President.” We will highlight our new color of the month orange, our last color song to memorize. We will use eggs to help us work on our counting.

April (no school on Monday the 9th, 11th) or (10th, 12)
We will continue or spring segment with a focus on the life cycle of various animals. Writing our numbers will the main focus this week. Our highlight song will be “Up, up in the sky.”

April (16th, 18th) or (17th , 19th)
We are back to highlighting an alphabet letter. The letter of the week is W. We will talk about walruses and water. We will discuss the science behind the water cycle, with predictions and experiments.

April (23rd , 25th ) or (24th , 26th )
Our letter of the week is X. We will talk about Xylophones of course! An emphasis will be on musical instruments. The children will have the opportunity to play various instruments as well as listen to many different types of music. We will be dancing up a storm!
April (30th , May 2nd) or (May 1st ,May 3rd )
The Letter of the week is Y. We will talk about yarn and how it is made. We will be making a craft with yarn. We will be reviewing all our material and preparing for graduation, information to come!

Greetings all, I am excited to introduce the registration packet for the 2012-2013 Kokopelli Kids Preschool (KKP) school year. I will be offering two classes.

 The Monday/Wednesday class will be formatted for children who are 3 turning 4. Specifically this class is for children who have more than 1 year until they attend kindergarten. This class will focus on fundamentals, socialization and independence.

The Tuesday/Thursday class will be formatted for children who are 4 turning 5. This class is designed for children who will attend  kindergarten.the following year. This class will delve deeper into kindergarten readiness, attention, and retention.

Each class will be 2 ½ hours and will meet twice a week. The classes will be $80.00 a month (parents who pay a semester in advance will receive $5.00 off each month, also siblings get $5.00 off each student). Students must be at least 3 years old.            
                                         Monday/Wednesday class           9:30-12:00 am.
                                         Tuesday/Thursday class               9:30-12:00 am.
 
KKP follows the TUSD calendar..  If there is no school for TUSD there is no school for KKP.  We will still have school on Teacher Conference days.


 
There is a non-refundable $25.00 registration fee. Registration is complete when 1) the forms are filled out 2) forms are returned 3) the fee is paid. This will solidify your child’s placement in next year’s preschool.

Thank you for sharing your children with me! I love this age and find myself smiling with how bright the children are. I love to see how they express their new knowledge.

March Curriculumn

March (5,7) or (6,8) The letter of the week is T. The first class day we will talk about turtles and desert tortoise, we will learn about their habitats and their diets and we will compare them with our habitats and our diets.We will sing "I have a tiny turtle" and continue on our sight reading skills. On the second day of class we will talk about teddy bears, your child is invited to bring a teddy bear from home. We will focus on our counting skills and addition problems.

March (12,14) or (13,15) This week is a theme week, our theme is cultures. We will discuss cultures from around the world, their differences and similarities. For snack time we will have the opportunity to try some different foods from different countries. We will also talk about the fun myth of leprechauns and St. Patrick's day.

March (19, 21) or (20,22) The letter of the week is U. We will do spacial activities with umbrellas to discuss  up and down, as well as, under and over. We will read "Hop on Pop" by Dr, Seuss to further explore these spacial concepts.

March (26, 28) or (27,29) The letter of the week is V. We will talk about Volcanoes of course! Our craft will be exploding with fun! We will discuss the topagrahy of the earth and southern Arizona's unique landscape.

February News


February  (6, 8) and (7, 9) The letter focus will be P. The students are invited to wear their Pajamas on Monday/Tuesday and bring their favorite stuffed animal. On the second day of class we will talk about panda bears and penguins and other black and white animals. We will discuss patterns, specifically the AB pattern.

February (13 Valentines party,15) and (14 Valentines party,16)  The letter focus will be Q. We will have a Valentines performance and party. We will be making mailboxes in class, please bring a Valentine card for each member of the class. Ask Mrs. Lesley for a class list if you have not received one. The performance will start at 11:30. On the first day of class we will discuss Queens and royalty. We will also talk about good manners. On the second day of class we will talk about quilts and continue learning about patterns, as well as, counting review.

February (20, 22) ad (21, No class on Thursday 23 due to Rodeo Vacation) The letter of the week is R. We will talk about the rodeo and its significance to the Tucson community. We will read about the rodeo and participate in some rodeo activities, we will also eat some cowboy food. If your child has boots feel free to have them wear them!

February ( 27, 29) and (28, March 1) The letter of the week is S. We will have a slithering good time as we discuss snakes. We will discuss the different kinds of snacks, their sizes, their colors and their patterns. We will have a great time discussing these amazing reptiles.

·        ***There will be a field trip sometime in February; I am waiting to hear back from the Tucson Fire Department to let me know the date.

School is back Tuesday January 3rd, no class on Monday January 2nd

January 3, 5 (Tuesday/Thursday class) and  January 4 (Monday /Wednesday class)
 Our topic this week is New Years. We will discuss goals and New Years traditions. We will continue to work on alphabet recognition and the phonics for each alphabet.

January 9, 11 (Monday/Wednesday class) and January 10, 12 (Tuesday/ Thursday class)
We will have a letter to highlight, M will be our spotlight. We will talk about Moose and have a craft that features these very tall animals. Our book for the first class day will be "If you give a moose a muffin." Of course we will have muffins for our snack. The book for the second day will be "Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose." Our craft will involve making our own special moose, the students will get to use paint!

January  18 (Monday/Wednesday class)  and January 17, 19 (Tuesday/Thursday class)
There is no school on Monday due to Mr. Luther King Jr. Day. This week will be a theme week and not an alphabet highlight, our theme is heroes!  We will talk about heroes from the past and present day heroes. We will talk about how the children can be heroes with their actions and words.

January 23, 25 (Monday/Wednesday class) and January 24, 26 (Tuesday/Thursday class)
This week the letter focus is N. We will talk about nests and the number nine. Nana that is nearly ninety might stop by for a visit  :)

January 30 and February 1 (Mon. /Wed.) and January 31 and February 2 (Tues/ Thurs)
This week the letter focus will be O. The short O sound will focus on octopuses and the long O sound will focus on oceans. It will be an under the sea week!

November and December Curriculum


November (7th, 9th) or (8th, 10th) The letter of the week is I. We will talk about ice cream (long I sound), the science behind how it is made. We will also use ice cream scoops to visualize counting techniques. We will be focusing on associating the written number with the corresponding amount. We will also discuss ice and igloos (short I sound ee). We will talk about the different climates of earth. We will have a fun activity with an ice treasure. 

*The color song we are learning this month is "brown." The students learned the "red" color song in August, the "blue" color song in September and last month they learned the "black" song.

November (14th, 16th) or (15th, 17th)  The letter of the week is J. We will talk about jets and other forms of transportation. We will discuss road signs and their meanings. We will also play red light green light. This week we will work on reinforcing our knowledge of shape recognition. On our second class of the week we will talk about jelly beans and use them in a counting activity. We will work on our hand eye coordination with using scissors in our craft.

November (21st, 23rd) or (22nd, No Class on 24th) This week we will have a theme instead of a letter. Our theme, of course, is Thanksgiving. We will talk about American history, the early pilgrims, and Native Americans of the United States. We will discuss the many things for which we are thankful. We will make a craft representing our thankfulness for all our many blessings.

November (28th, 30th) or (29th , Dec. 1st) The letter of the week is K. We will talk about keys: how they are made and the purpose of a key. We will use keys to exercise our counting abilities. We will also talk about kindness, how we feel when we are kind to our family and friends and how it makes us feel when others are kind to us.

*The tuition for December is $40.00, because the month is half the length due to the Holiday break.

December (5th, 7th) or (6th, 8th) The letter of the week is L. We will talk about leaopards, their habit, the patterns on their body, and what they eat. We will use the dots on their back to demonstrate math equations.The second class of the week we will discuss lollipops. We will discuss the science of how they are made. We will use the lollipops to review our colors and also continue to work on the phonics of the alphabet.

December (12th,14th) or (13th, 15th) This week we will have a theme instead of a letter. We will discuss the winter season. We will talk about what clothes are appropriate in the winter. We will talk about winter activities. We will discuss the various animals that hibernate during the winter. We will also have a review of the materail that we have covered during the first semester.

* The color song we will be learning in December is "green".

* School will resume Tuesday January 3rd, 2012
